EMORY, Va. – Host Emory and Henry scored a goal midway through the second half to down Shenandoah 2-1 in ODAC men's soccer action Saturday evening.
After E&H (2-12, 1-5 ODAC) had opened the game's scoring with a goal in the 30th minute, senior Alex Clouse tied it for SU (0-13, 0-6).
Just eight seconds before halftime, Clouse converted a free kick from 22 yards out to bring the game back to level.
Unfortunately for the Hornets, the Wasps answered 25 minutes into the second half.
Pierce Moreland corralled a long pass and slipped his shot past SU keeper Rodrigo Casteriana for what proved to be the game-winner.
SU had five shots after Moreland's goal, but Wasps keeper Didier Grillett came up with four saves, another was blocked and the last one was off-frame.
E&H outshot the Hornets 18-16 with SU taking nine of the game's 14 corners.
Casteriana had five saves.
Shenandoah is back in action on Wednesday evening with a 7 p.m. home contest against Bridgewater.
