Generals Top Volleyball

WINCHESTER, Va. League-leading Washington and Lee University maintained its spot at the top of the ODAC volleyball standings with a 3-1 victory Wednesday evening over host Shenandoah.

The Generals (14-3, 5-0 ODAC) won at 15 and 13 in the opening two sets before Shenandoah (8-10, 2-4) was a 25-23 in the third.

W&L then clinched the match with a 25-14 victory in fourth.

SU led by by four points on multiple occasions in the third before the Generals used a 7-1 run to take a 20-17 advantage following a Courtney Freudenthal kill.

Coach Jaime Terenzi then called time out and her club proceeded to rip off the next five points to take a 22-20 lead.

Senior Haley Smith completed the set with a kill off of a Jasmine Callahan assist.

Smith and Rachel Gross had eight kills each for the hosts with Samantha Schambach contributing 13 digs and Callahan 10.

Callahan also had 22 assists.

M.A. Boles had a match-high 13 kills for W&L.

Shenandoah steps out of conference this Saturday for a tri-match at Frostburg. The Hornets face St. Vincent in addition to the host Bobcats.
