WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University volleyball team rode the emotion of its Dig Pink crowd to fuel a 3-1 ODAC victory over Lynchburg College Wednesday evening.

SU (12-14, 4-6 ODAC) qualifies for the upcoming ODAC Tournament with the win over LC (11-12, 6-4).

Shenandoah is now tied with Bridgewater for seventh in the league, one-half game ahead of ninth place Guilford in the league standings. Even if SU loses on Saturday in the league finale (at home against Randolph), it will still hold the eighth and final spot in the tourney thanks to a 3-0 win over GC on September 28.

Playing before a pink-outfitted crowd that included the "Buzzin' Dozen" Pep Band, Shenandoah rebounded from a 25-19 LC victory in the opening set to sweep the final three sets at 19, 21 and 15.

Coach Jaime Terenzi's club took control of the match with a 9-2 run in the middle of the second set that turned a 14-12 deficit into a 19-16 lead.

Junior Rachel Gross, who had a co-match-high 11 kills, clinched the set with a service ace.

Following the 10-minute break in which Shenandoah raised nearly $300 for the Side-Out Foundation and raffled off a dozen items, SU again rallied in the middle of the set.

Trailing 10-7, Terenzi's club quickly jumped in front 11-10 thanks to three LC attack errors and a Gross kill.

The hosts did not trail again in the set, eventually closing it out on another Gross kill.

The fourth brought more of the same, this time rallying from 9-7 down to lead 12-10 and eventually 23-13 before coasting home to the 10-point victory.

Samantha Schamach, who matched Gross with 11 kills, clinched the victory with her third service ace of the night.

Jasmine Callahan had a match-high 34 assists and 11 digs with Gross also posting 18 digs.

Katy Griffith and Rachel Cerretani had 14 digs each to back up Gross.

Shenandoah celebrates its seniors, honoring Griffith and Haley Smith, prior to Saturday's 2:00 contest against Randolph.
