Hockey Shuts Out Maroons

SALEM, Va. – The Shenandoah University field hockey team clinched a home game at the upcoming ODAC Tournament with a 2-0 league win at Roanoke Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Kelani Bailey finished off a Sarah Brock penalty corner insertion in the 12th minute to give SU (9-9, 5-2 ODAC) all it would need against Roanoke (3-13, 2-6).

In the 48th minute, junior Ashley Cross, who leads the ODAC in scoring, tallied unassisted to give the Hornets an insurance goal.

The Hornets defense then took over with senior Sarah Clare posting her second straight shutout.

Clare made three saves in the win.

Shenandoah outshot the Maroons 13-8 and had an 11-4 advantage in penalty corners.

SU now knows it will host a first round game next Saturday afternoon against an opponent to be determined.

Game time will be determined on Wednesday.

The Hornets complete the regular season with a Wednesday afternoon home contest against Randolph-Macon.
