WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's soccer team clinched a home game at the upcoming ODAC Tournament with a 4-0 victory over Randolph-Macon in the regular season finale Tuesday afternoon.
Shenandoah (10-7-1, 8-3-1 ODAC) finishes in a tie for fourth in the league with the shutout victory over R-MC (7-10, 5-7).
The Hornets will be the No. 4 seed and face the No. 5 seed (most likely Roanoke or Bridgewater) in a Saturday quarterfinal.
This game is tentatively scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
SU wasted little time in jumping on the Yellow Jackets Tuesday evening, scoring a pair of goals in the opening 12:30.
Senior Courtney Stull, one of eight seniors honored prior to the start of the game, got matters started in the 11th minute when she fed freshman Averi Rosena for the opening goal of the contest.
Less than two minutes later, senior Courtney Boschert made it 2-0 as she corralled a pass from classmate Kirby Talbert, cut back to the middle of the field and around a defender before ripping a shot just under the crossbar from six yards out.
Stull figured in the next goal as well, setting up sophomore Danielle Burris just 46 seconds into the second half.
A pair of freshmen, Alysha McCleaf and Jennifer Nguyen, combined on the final goal with Nguyen knocking it home.
Shenandoah took all 23 shots in the game and had a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Freshman Erin Septer, who played the opening 56:31 of the game, earned the victory.
Macon keepers Elizabeth Blanco and Cecilia Quinonez combined to make 11 saves.
