SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Shenandoah University field hockey team earned its first ODAC win of the season with a 4-0 shutout of host Sweet Briar Saturday afternoon.
The victory also snaps a three-match losing streak for the Hornets (5-7, 1-1 ODAC).
Junior Ashley Cross figured in three of her team's four goals on the day.
In the 34th minute, she converted a Sarah Brock feed for what would prove to be the game-winner.
Following the break, Cross sandwiched assists on goals in the 41st and 67th minutes around a Brock goal in the 58th minute to provide the final margin of victory.
Sophomore Presha Merritt fed Brock for her tally while Tori Finney and Lauren Mills had the goals in the 41st and 67th minutes, respectively.
Sarah Clare made three saves in the opening 57:15 of game time before turning it over to sophomore Katelyn Gregory.
Shenandoah had a 26-5 advantage in shots over the Vixens (1-7, 0-2) and took 15 of the game's 21 corners.
SU is in action on Wednesday at Gettysburg in the squad's final non-conference contest of the season.
