BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's soccer team took a major step forward to clinching an ODAC Tournament berth with a 1-0 win at Bridgewater Wednesday afternoon.
Shenandoah (7-5-1, 5-1-1 ODAC) made a Danielle Burris goal in the seventh minute stand up in the win over Bridgewater (7-5, 4-2).
Burris lofted a curving shot with her left foot that went off of Eagles keeper Taylor Riley's hand and into the right panel.
Sophomore Erin Septer made four of her five saves in the second half to post her second solo shutout of the season.
Septer also has two shared shutouts.
SU outshot the Eagles 11-10 with BC taking six of the game's nine corner kicks.
The one-goal victory for Shenandoah continues a string of close games between the two schools. SU and BC have tied in each of the last three meetings in Winchester (2008, 2010, 2012) while Shenandoah has taken two of three one-goal contests in the last three games in Bridgewater (2009, 2011, 2013).
The Hornets remain in third place in the 13-team league with the victory. The top eight teams make the post-season tournament with seeds one through four hosting in the opening round.
Shenandoah hosts Guilford on Saturday in a 1:00 ODAC contest. This game is also "Friends & Family" Day for the women's soccer program.
