Women Rally Past Wasps

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's basketball team earned its first ODAC win of the season Saturday afternoon with a 72-65 triumph over Emory & Henry.

Shenandoah (3-4, 1-1 ODAC) found itself down 40-32 at the break and by 13 points as late as the 15:50 mark, but rallied for the win over the Wasps (1-6, 0-3).

Trailing 54-44 after Kristie Langley hit one of two from the line for E&H with 11:58 remaining, the Hornets scored 13 of the game's next 16 points to tie it at 57-57 with 6:11 left.

Junior Holly Chittenden, who led all scorers with a career-high-tying 22 points, brought it back to level with a 10-foot jumper.

Chittenden then gave her club its first lead since the opening possession of the game by hitting a driving layup at 5:45.

Shenandoah would never trail again.

Emory & Henry stayed in it for the next two minutes, eventually tying at 59-59 thanks to another Langley free throw, but Imani Heggins answered with a 12-foot jumper on the next trip down the floor and the Hornets would hold the lead for good.

Heggins bucket, from the elbow, started a 10-2 run over the next 2:38 that clinched the victory for the hosts.

The win is also the first for SU over the Wasps. The two teams have now played just four times in history.

Chittenden had her second consecutive double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds (both game-highs) with Heggins adding 20 points and Crystal Petrus 11.

JoBeth Wright had 15, Langley 14 and Anna Green 10 for the Wasps.

Shenandoah is off until hosting Lebanon Valley on December 16 in a 6:00 non-league contest.
