'Jackets Sting Men

WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Randolph-Macon used a strong start to take a lead it would not relinquish in an 81-60 ODAC men's basketball victory over Shenandoah Wednesday evening.

The Yellow Jackets (15-9, 10-5 ODAC) scored the game's first six points and 12 of the first 14 to take the early lead over SU (3-21, 0-15).

Macon eventually extended its lead out to 19 points, 25-6, with 8:24 remaining in the first.

The Hornets began their long climb back into the contest at this point, outscoring R-MC 16-7 over the final 6:09 of the stanza.

Freshman Sharif Almulla sandwiched a pair of 3-pointers around an Eli McEathron 3-ball to start the run - the two combined to score all 16 of the hosts' points to finish the half.

Shenandoah was able to stay with 11 points for the first 6:42 of the second only to see Macon reel off an 8-2 spurt to push its advantage to 16 points by the 11:01 mark.

Another run, this one 16-4 over a span of 3:22, put the game out of reach.

Almulla led all scorers with 23 points, McEathron added 13 and Jared Carithers 11 for SU.

Lamar Giggetts had 17 points for the victors.

Shenandoah completes its regular season on Saturday with a 2:00 contest at Washington and Lee.
