LYNCHBURG, Va. – Host Randolph College earned its second ODAC women's basketball victory of the season Saturday afternoon with a 76-64 win over Shenandoah.
The win snaps a 15-game losing streak for Randolph (4-18, 2-12 ODAC) and splits the season series with SU (10-13, 6-8).
Shenandoah, which held a six-point lead midway through the first half, dug itself out of a seven-point hole late in the contest only to see the WildCats rally.
Trailing 51-44 with 10:02 left, SU scored 14 of the game's next 20 points to lead 58-57 following an Ashley McGhee 3-pointer with 4:40 remaining.
Unfortunately for the Hornets, Randolph hit a 3-pointer of its own for its next points and reeled off 14 of the next 17 points to post a 10-point lead with 1:00 remaining.
The 'Cats then coasted home to the 12-point win.
The two teams traded the lead five times and were tied on one other occasion before Randolph took a one-point lead into the halftime locker room on the strength of a 10-3 run to complete the stanza.
Leading 29-23 following a Crystal Petrus 3-pointer with 4:29 remaining, SU saw the 'Cats score 10 of the next 12 points of the contest to lead 33-31 with one minute remaining.
Gabrielle Clarke then hit one of two from the line with 21 seconds, making the first, to bring the visitors within one.
Shenandoah shot 44 percent in the opening 20 minutes, but Randolph used a 23-16 advantage on the glass to secure the one-point lead.
Senior Nicole Gilbertson paced SU with 12 points while Petrus had 12.
Abigail Bullins, who hit the 3-pointer to give the hosts the lead for good, had a game-high 20 points.
Shenandoah concludes its home regular season schedule on Tuesday at 7 against Randolph-Macon. The game is also the program's annual Play4Kay contest.
