Baseball Doubles Up York (Pa.)

WINCHESTER, Va. – No. 12/12 Shenandoah University ran its non-conference winning streak to nine games with an 8-4 victory over York (Pa.) Monday afternoon.

Shenandoah (16-5) scored four runs on three hits and two Spartans (9-12) errors in the first inning to take a lead it would not relinquish.

After starting pitcher Billy Arens hit consecutive hitters to start the second, Hornets skipper Kevin Anderson turned to freshman Eric Liskey to put out the fire.

Liskey (1-0) shined in his first collegiate varsity appearance, allowing just two runs on seven hits over the final 8.0 innings to earn the victory.

The SU defense helped him out with double plays in the second, third and sixth innings. The 63 DP in the second ended the frame.

Liskey struck out two and retired YCP in order in the third, fourth, sixth and eighth.

Shenandoah, which banged out nine hits on the day, scored four runs in the first and two more in the second to take a commanding 6-2 lead.

Anderson's club then expanded its advantage with single runs in the fifth and sixth.

Sophomore J.J. McDaniel provided the two runs in the second with a two-run dinger to right.

In the first, classmate Michael Paul had a two-run single to center.

The runs in the fifth and sixth came home via wild pitch.

Paul led the victors with two hits in four at-bats with McDaniel driving in the two runs and junior Dan Powers one.

Tyler Alexander (1-2) took the loss for York. He allowed eight runs (just four earned) on eight hits and one walk in 5 1/3.

Shenandoah returns to ODAC play tomorrow with a 3:30 home contest against league-leading Bridgewater.
