Eagles Nip Baseball

WINCHESTER, Va. – Visiting Bridgewater College kept its ODAC baseball record perfect on the season with a 2-1 victory over No. 18/22 Shenandoah Tuesday afternoon.

The Eagles (17-6, 10-0 ODAC) scored two runs on just one hit in the third and made it stand up against SU (16-7, 8-6).

The Hornets, who scored one run in the eighth, loaded the bases in the ninth only to see BC closer Nick Corbin induce John Wilt into a lineout in right to end the game.

SU had loaded the bases with two outs on an Andrew Creamer single to right center, a Nick Beall single to right and a walk to Lew Johnson.

Corbin then got Wilt on the sinking liner to right to post his first save of the spring.

Corey Armentrout (3-0) earned the win after allowing one run on five hits and two walks in 7.0 innings pitched.

Corbin Lucas drove in that lone run, swatting a double to left with two outs in the eighth.

Lucas plated Johnson, who had pinch run for classmate Garrett Wooddell after Wooddell led off the SU eighth with a single up the middle.

Bridgewater scored those two runs in the third as Cavin Clyde led off with a single and the next two hitters reached via fielder's choice to load the bases.

Jonathan Mason and Andrew Hacker then plated runs with sacrifice flies to center and left, respectively.

That inning made freshman Darrell Thompson (1-1) the hard-luck loser. Thompson allowed the two runs on six hits in 7 1/3 innings. He struck out four.

Wilt paced the Hornets offense with two hits.

Shenandoah travels to Frostburg on Thursday for a non-league game.
