Eagles Clip Men's Lax

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Host Bridgewater College prevented Shenandoah University from earning its first-ever ODAC men's lacrosse victory with a 10-8 win Wednesday afternoon at Jopson Field.

The Eagles (5-8, 1-6 ODAC) scored the first three goals of the game to take a lead they would not relinquish over SU (5-8, 0-6).

Freshman Sean Ohlhaver broke the scoreless string with an unassisted goal at 12:12 of the first, but SU could not make a deeper dent in the BC lead. Bridgewater scored two of the final three goals of the opening stanza to take 5-2 lead after one.

This lead eventually expanded to 6-2 before the Hornets sandwiched a 3-0 run around the halftime break to trail by just one, 6-5, with 11:39 remaining in the third.

Unfortunately for coach Mike Kruger's club, this would be as close as Shenandoah would get.

The Eagles scored the final three goals of the third with the final one, by Thomas Maher with 5:44 remaining, proving to be the eventual game-winner.

Ohlaver, who had the first two goals in that original 3-0 run for the Hornets, scored the initial goal of the fourth.

Freshman Nick Rondeau then had two of the final three goals of the game, scoring for the visitors at 11:34 and 3:10, to provide the final margin.

Ohlhaver had four goals and Rondeau two goals and an assist to lead Kruger's club offensively.

BC outshot SU 48-32, had a 50-34 advantage in groundballs and won 19 of 22 draws at the faceoff 'x'.

Tyler Quinn made 14 saves for the Hornets.

Shenandoah hosts Guilford on Saturday in another ODAC contest.
