FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – No. 25/25 Shenandoah University completed its regular season baseball slate by Sunday splitting a non-league doubleheader at Farmingdale (N.Y.) State.
The Hornets (27-10) came back to win game two 5-3 after FSC (24-10) was a 3-2 victor in the opener.
Shenandoah took a game two lead it would not relinquish with two runs in the second and single runs in fourth and fifth.
Corbin Lucas, Dan Powers and Andrew Creamer all had two hits in the win with Powers, Lew Johnson and Michael Paul driving in runs.
In the ninth, Paul had his RBI when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Ricky Pardo and Lew Johnson drew a pair of walks before Lucas singled to center to bring Paul to the plate. The sophomore was then hit by a pitch to force home the final run of the game.
The Rams loaded the bases in the ninth, but freshman closer Cameron Lundmark struck out Terrence Bohonan looking on four pitches to close out the contest.
Freshman Billy Arens (5-1) was credited with the win. He allowed one run on four hits in 3.0 innings of work.
Shenandoah was held to four hits in the opener, including two from Lucas.
Senior Nick McMahon (3-4) took the loss in that contest, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings of work.
Nick Beall had the squad's lone RBI in game one. He drove in Daniel Freshley with a groundout in the seventh.
SU opens up its first-ever ODAC Tournament as the No. 3 seed on Thursday at 6:00 against fourth-seeded Washington and Lee. This game will be the final one of the initial day of competition at Lynchburg City Stadium.
