Hockey Overthrows Presidents

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University field hockey team snapped a three-match losing streak Sunday with a 2-0 non-league home win over Washington & Jefferson.

Sophomore Kelani Bailey scored both goals for the Hornets (4-4) in the win over W&J (6-3).

Bailey scored unassisted in the 12th minute, finally poking home a rebound after twice being denied by Presidents goalkeeper Morgan Brozena.

In the 40th minute, Bailey took a feed from Presha Merritt and blasted home an insurance goal from just inside the circle.

Merritt had received a penalty corner insertion from Sarah Brock at the top of the circle and found Bailey on the wing for the goal.

Shenandoah goalkeeper Sarah Clare was outstanding in posting the shutout - four of her six saves came in the first half.

SU outshot its visitors 16-10 and took 10 of the game's 15 penalty corners.

The Hornets host Dickinson on Tuesday night at 7 in another non-league contest.
