Lynchburg Shuts Out Hockey

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University field hockey team opened up its ODAC slate Friday afternoon with a 5-0 loss to seven-time defending champion Lynchburg.

The LC Hornets (6-2, 2-0 ODAC) scored two goals in the first half before pulling away with a three-goal second against SU (4-6, 0-1).

Kelli Williams scored what proved to be the game-winner by finishing of a Nicole Marburger feed in the 25th minute.

LC scored its remaining goals in the 29th, 37th, 41st and 55th minutes.

Lynchburg outshot SU 28-12 and an 18-11 advantage in penalty corners.

Senior Sarah Clare had 11 saves in the losing effort.

LC has won the past seven league titles and is undefeated in league play since the start of the 2009 season.

Shenandoah is back in action on Wednesday with a 4:00 non-league game against St. Mary's (Md.).
