WINCHESTER, Va. – Visiting Catholic University used a three-goal spurt midway through the second half Wednesday night to fuel a 5-2 non-league men's soccer victory over host Shenandoah.
After Emilio Altamirano tied the game for SU (0-3) with his unassisted goal at 52:14, CUA (2-1) answered with three goals in a span of 5:22 to re-take the advantage.
Nico Bartolomeo scored the first two goals, at 70:02 and 71:50, before setting up Kevin Romano at 75:24 with what proved to be the final goal of the game.
Sophomore Eduardo Santiago had gotten Shenandoah on the board by finishing off an Andrew Ralli feed at 26:13 to cut the Hornets deficit to one at 2-1.
Catholic had taken the 2-0 lead with goals in the seventh and 24th minutes.
CUA outshot its hosts 28-4 and had a 9-3 advantage in corners.
Shenandoah goalkeeper Rodrigo Casteriana made 11 saves to keep his side in the contest.
The Hornets take to the road this weekend to play in the St. Mary's (Md.) Tournament. SU plays Salisbury and the host Seahawks.
