Men Win Sixth Straight as Green Hits 1000

SALEM, Va. – The Shenandoah University men's basketball team ran its winning streak to six games Saturday afternoon with an 82-67 ODAC win at Roanoke College.

The victory is also the first road ODAC win in history for SU (9-3, 2-2 ODAC).

Senior Avery Green punctuated the victory by coming the 17th man in school history (and fifth wearing the No. 4 jersey) to score 1000 career points.

Green, who needed 16 points coming into the game to crack the barrier, scored his 1000 point on a second half free throw.

He finished with 24 points.

Shenandoah, which trailed 36-34 at the break, took control of the contest with a 12-5 run to start the second.

Green scored the opening bucket of the second to tie the game, and after Jimi Starks hit a driving layup with 14:43 to play, the Hornets led the rest of the way.

A 6-0 run from the 5:04 to 3:34 marks, capped off by a Walt Moody free throw, extended the advantage to 10 points and basically sealed the victory.

The two teams shot the lights out in the opening stanza, with Shenandoah connecting on 40 percent of its field goal attempts (12 of 30) and Roanoke 50 percent on 15 of 30 shooting.

The two teams reversed those percentages from behind the arc as SU, fueled by a 5 of 7 performance from Jared Carithers, connected on 6 of its 12 attempts from 3-point range.

Carithers had 18 of his 32 points in the opening 20 minutes.

SU shot 47 percent for the game and owned a 44-37 advantage on the glass.

Roanoke falls to 6-6, 0-4 with the loss.

Shenandoah hosts Randolph-Macon on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. in the second game of an ODAC doubleheader with the SU women. The Hornet women host Bridgewater at 6.

Prior to that game, coach Rob Pryor's club plays at Frostburg State on Monday in a 7 p.m. non-league contest.
