FROSTBURG, Va. – The Shenandoah University men's basketball team has equaled its longest winning streak in 23 years after downing Frostburg State 89-75 in non-conference action Monday night.
The Hornets (10-3) have won seven straight, matching the 2007-08 team for the longest streak since the 1990-91 squad won 10 consecutive contests.
The 10th win also means that SU has reached double-digit wins for the first time since 2009-10.
SU led throughout the contest but needed a 15-7 run midway through the second half to clinch the victory.
The Hornets led by 11 points, 54-43, following a pair of Jared Carithers free throws at 14:58 but saw FSU (0-13) score nine straight points in 60 seconds to trail by just two, 54-52, with 13:29 to play.
Shenandoah answered with an 11-4 run that extended to 15-7 and gave coach Rob Pryor's club a 10-point advantage with 7:18 remaining.
The Hornets never saw their lead dip below eight points the rest of the way and was 14 points after senior Avery Green scored four consecutive from the 3:52 to 3:04 marks.
Green, who was named ODAC Player of the Week earlier in the day, led all players with a 30-point night. This is the third time this season that he has scored at least 30 points in a game.
Carithers added 23, CJ Rudisill 12 and Xavier Alston 12 with nine rebounds in support of Green.
The Hornets shot an even 50 percent on the night (29 of 58) and were 8 of 15 (53.3 percent) from behind the arc.
Frostburg outrebounded SU 48-38, which led to a 17-8 advantage in second chance points.
SU scored 20 points off of 16 FSU turnovers.
With its non-conference schedule complete, Shenandoah returns to ODAC play on Wednesday night at 8:00 with a home game against Randolph-Macon.
