Macon Clips Men

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University men's basketball team saw its seven-game winning streak come to an end Wednesday night with a 103-80 ODAC loss to Randolph-Macon.

The Yellow Jackets (10-4, 4-1 ODAC) led virtually throughout in earning the victory over SU (10-4, 2-3).

Shenandoah took the initial lead on a Jared Carithers 3-pointer 23 seconds into the contest, but R-MC answered on its next trip down the floor and then took the lead for good with a Connor Sullivan layup at 18:06.

Sullivan's bucket started a 17-1 run that put the 'Jackets firmly in control of the contest.

SU, thanks to five consecutive points from senior Avery Green, would cut the deficit to eight points with 8:54 remaining in the first, but would get no closer.

Andre Simon answered Green's run with a layup at 7:48 and Macon held a double-digit lead for all but 25 seconds the rest of the way.

The margin reached 18 points in the first half before reaching 30 points by the 5:43 mark of the second thanks to a 37-16 run in the middle of the second stanza.

The Hornets completed the game by scoring 20 of the game's final 33 points.

Green, the current ODAC Player of the Week, had 22 points for the hosts with Carithers adding 14.

Jamie Wilson and Chris Hamilton had 15 each for R-MC.

Shenandoah takes to the road Saturday for a 2:00 contest at Hampden-Sydney.
