WINCHESTER, Va. – Visiting Bridgewater College earned a 58-56 ODAC women's basketball victory over Shenandoah Wednesday night with a buzzer-beating 3-pointer.
Shenandoah (5-9, 2-3 ODAC) led by 12 points following an Erin French jumper at the 10:41 mark, but saw BC (5-8, 3-2) storm back for the victory.
The Eagles took a 55-53 lead on a Holly Morgan 3-pointer with 23 seconds remaining, but then committed two fouls in the final 11 seconds that gave the Hornets a chance to seal the victory.
Junior Holly Chittenden hit the first of two with 11 seconds left to cut the deficit to one, 55-54, before missing the second.
Shenandoah earned the rebound on the missed second free throw and senior Crystal Petrus was fouled with five seconds remaining.
Petrus, an 83 percent shooter from the line, calmly drained both free throws to give the hosts a 56-55 advantage.
Cassidy Buckholder then stole the victory for BC by draining a 3-pointer as the buzzer sounded to give the Eagles the two-point win.
Petrus led SU with 16 points with sophomore Imani Heggins adding 15 and freshman Tiffany Bauer 10.
Heather Cantrell, the current ODAC Player of the Week, had 15 points and Burkholder 14 for Bridgewater.
Heggins had a game-high 12 rebounds to post her first double-double of the season.
Shenandoah is back in action on Saturday at Randolph.
