Men's Basketball Wins First ODAC Contest

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University men's basketball team earned its first on-court ODAC basketball victory in history Saturday with a 72-60 triumph over Emory & Henry.

The win is the fourth straight for SU (7-3, 1-2 ODAC) and snaps a 35-game losing streak* to ODAC opponents stretching back to a double overtime victory over Bridgewater on February 8, 2009.

The Hornets led for all but one possession, and led by as many as 16 midway through the first half, but found themselves trailing by one, 45-44, following a Kevin Anzenberger 3-pointer for the Wasps at the 10:14 mark of the second.

E&H (2-9, 0-2) erased an eight point, 35-26, second half deficit with an 18-9 run from the 17:30 to 10:14 marks.

Anzenberger hit consecutive 3-pointers to give Emory & Henry its only lead, but Shenandoah had an answer.

Senior Avery Green, who led all players with 25 points, put the hosts back up one with a jumper from the corner at 9:35 and the Hornets never trailed again.

Green's bucket started a 13-0 run for the hosts that he finished with a 3-pointer from the wing at 6:21.

From this point on, SU held a double-digit lead for all but 30 seconds of the remaining time.

The run eventually extended out to 20-5 before the Wasps scored 10 of the final 18 points of the contest.

In addition to Green's 25, senior Kevin Lecsaint and junior Jared Carithers both added 12 points.

Lecsaint also posted a career-high 15 rebounds to give him his first career double-double.

The double-double is also the first for the program since Mitch Dudley '11 had one against Methodist on February 19, 2011, a span of 64 games.

Charles Smith had 16 points and Drew Henry 13 for E&H, which won the battle of the glass 43-36.

The Hornets step out-of-conference on Monday with a 6:00 contest at Penn State – Altoona.

*Shenandoah was awarded a forfeit victory over Bridgewater on February 6, 2013 due to the Eagles using an ineligible player. BC originally won that game 70-61.
