GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Shenandoah University women's basketball team completed its non-conference schedule Saturday afternoon with a 60-58 loss at Gettysburg College.
The Hornets (4-7) trailed by eight points, 30-22, at the break, before staging a furious comeback in the waning moments of the game against GC (7-3).
Trailing 57-47 after Alyssa Isler had a 3-point play for the Bullets, Shenandoah scored 11 of the game's next 13 points to trail by just one, 59-58, following a Crystal Petrus 3-pointer with nine seconds remaining.
The Hornets fouled on the ensuing possession, sending Caroline Murphy to the line for two shots, and Murphy hit one of two to give the hosts a two-point advantage.
Freshman Tiffany Bauer had the rebound of Murphy's miss on the second shot and quickly pitched it ahead to sophomore Imani Heggins, who missed on a halfcourt attempt as the buzzer sounded.
Petrus, who played all 40 minutes of the contest, had 14 of her game-high 20 points in the second half to help bring Shenandoah back into contention.
Heggins added 14 points while junior Holly Chittenden had a game-high 13 rebounds and five assists to go along with eight points.
Heggins had six of her team's 11 points during that final run on two field goals and a 2 for 2 performance from the line.
Murphy paced the victors with 18 points.
Shenandoah won the battle of the glass 36-33.
The SU women return home on Tuesday for a 3:00 ODAC contest against Guilford.
