WINCHESTER, Va. – Visiting Washington and Lee made the most of its final opportunity in a 1-0 double overtime ODAC women's soccer victory over Shenandoah Wednesday evening.
Tricia Jessee scored in the 106th minute to give W&L (8-0-1, 6-0 ODAC) the golden goal victory over SU (3-7-2, 3-2).
The Generals, who owned a 17-7 shot advantage in the game, appeared to have an excellent opportunity to win it in regulation when Shenandoah was called for a handball in the box during a scrum in front of Hornets keeper Erin Septer.
Hollis Tardy took the try for W&L, but came up empty as she clanged her shot off the left post.
The Generals had one more opportunity in regulation, but Septer was there for the fifth of six saves she had on the evening.
Although the Hornets were held to seven shots on the night, with two of those on-frame, SU had the majority of scoring opportunities.
Shenandoah was denied by W&L keeper Addie Healy on two occasions and missed three shots just wide of the net.
The Hornets take to the road this Saturday for a 2:00 ODAC contest at Lynchburg
