Hockey Wins in Overtime

LEXINGTON, Va. - Senior Ashley Cross converted a penalty stroke in overtime Saturday to give Shenandoah University a 2-1 ODAC field hockey victory over Washington and Lee.

Cross scored in the 84th minute to secure the seventh straight win for the Hornets (9-4, 4-0 ODAC).

Washington and Lee (7-6, 1-3) made Cross' OT tally necessary after tying the game at 1-1 with just 3:11 to play in regulation.

SU, thanks to a Kelani Bailey goal off of a Sarah Brock penalty corner insertion, had led from the 14th minute on only to see the Generals tie it with the late goal.

Cross, the 2013 ODAC Player of the Year, made her stroke count for her team-leading 10th goal of the season.

The Hornets return home on Tuesday evening for a 7 p.m. ODAC contest against Bridgewater.
