WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University field hockey team ran its winning streak to five matches with a 4-1 ODAC victory over Sweet Briar Saturday afternoon.
The Hornets (7-4, 3-0 ODAC) dominated from the outset over SBC (0-11, 0-3), scoring just 3:34 on a Presha Merritt unassisted tally.
Merritt's classmate, junior Sarah Brock, set up freshman Moriah Woods for the eventual game winner in the 30th minute before Brock scored herself, unassisted, 63 seconds before the halftime horn.
Brock completed her solid afternoon by setting up Kelani Bailey in the 53rd minute.
Bailey took Brock's penalty corner insertion at the top of the arc and ripped the shot past Vixens goalkeeper Katie Torretti.
SBC scored its goal in the 62nd minute as Kimberly Orchowski beat backup SU keeper Kaitlyn Gregory on a deflected shot.
The Hornets outshot their visitors 40-3 and took 28 of the game's 30 penalty corners.
SU starter Jenna Rampale made two saves in 59 minutes of action before turning it over to Gregory.
Shenandoah hosts Frostburg State on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in a non-league matchup.
