WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's soccer team snapped its three-match losing streak Tuesday evening with a 6-1 ODAC victory over Eastern Mennonite.
Shenandoah (4-8-1, 4-3 ODAC) took the lead for good on a Carly Ferguson goal in the ninth minute over the Royals (4-7, 2-4).
Ferguson slid the ball into an open net after sophomore Averi Rosena fought off a defender and one-touched a Jennifer Nguyen serve from 20 yards out directly to the waiting Ferguson.
The Hornets added goals in the 36th, 45th, 49th and 50th minutes to take a commanding five-goal lead.
Rosena's goal in the 36th minute proved to be the game-winner.
Eastern Mennonite scored its lone goal on a header in the 62nd minute.
Alex Wessel scored the final goal of the game, tallying unassisted in the 88th minute.
SU outshot the Royals 19-4 and took all but one of the eight corners awarded.
Rosena led all players with a goal and two assists for four points with Alysha McCleaf adding one goal and one assist.
Nicole Pratt, who came on in goal to start the second half for the Hornets, had the squad's only save of the night. Erin Septer started and did not face an on-frame shot in the initial stanza.
Shenandoah takes to the road this weekend for a 1 p.m. Saturday ODAC contest at Guilford.
