NEW YORK, N.Y. – Host Lehman College led virtually throughout a 78-63 non-league men's basketball victory over Shenandoah Monday afternoon.
Freshman Henry Sorsaia scored the opening bucket of the game for Shenandoah (1-8) only to see Lehman (6-5) take the lead for good by scoring 14 of the game's next 16 points.
Sophomore Brandon Pressley finally snapped this opening string for SU with a 3-pointer at the 15:49 mark, but the damage was done.
The Hornets would get no closer than three points the rest of the way as LC led for 37:47 of the 40-minute contest.
The Lightning, who led 36-28 at the break, eventually pushed their lead out to 14 points by the 13:24 mark before Shenandoah attempted to get back into it with a 6-0 run that cut the SU deficit to 53-45 with 11:04 remaining.
Unfortunately for coach Rob Pryor's squad, LC scored nine of the game's next 15 points in the next 3:33 and Shenandoah never seriously threatened again.
Junior Antwan Pittman, who joined the team this week, and Jared Carithers led the Hornets with 11 points each.
Pressley and Malcolm Clark had 10 points each to give SU four players in double figures in the scoring column.
Shenandoah shot 40 percent and saw Lehman grab 44 of the game's 77 rebounds.
SU completes this trip on Tuesday with a 5 p.m. contest at CCNY.
