NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Shenandoah University women's basketball team completed its participation in the Coaches vs Cancer Tournament hosted by Lehman College with a 78-67 loss to Kean (N.J.) on Tuesday in the consolation contest.
Senior Holly Chittenden, who paced SU (5-5) with 13 points and 13 rebounds in Monday's opening game, was named to the All-Tournament team for her efforts.
Chittenden had 17 points in Tuesday's loss to Kean (7-4) on 5 of 7 shooting from the field and a perfect 7 of 7 from the line.
Trailing by just one, 57-56, following a pair of Breya Wallace free throws with 6:45 remaining, SU saw the Cougars score the game's next nine points in a span of 1:44 to seize control of the contest.
The Hornets, on the strength of an Erin French layup sandwiched by two free throws each from Chittenden and Wallace, was able to cut the deficit to six points with 2:30 remaining, but would get no closer.
Kean closed out the victory by scoring 10 of the game's final 15 points.
Wallace paced Melissa Smeltzer-Kraft's club with 19 points while French added 14 points and 12 rebounds.
SU shot 42 percent (23 of 55) for the game and had a 37-33 advantage on the glass.
Shenandoah completes non-conference play on Monday by hosting Mary Washington in a 5 p.m. contest.
