SALEM, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's basketball team completed its regular season Friday night with a 63-46 ODAC loss to Roanoke College.
Despite the loss, SU (9-16, 6-10 ODAC) will host a first round game in the ODAC Tournament Monday.
Coach C.K. Calhoun's club will learn its first round opponent following the completion of play Saturday afternoon.
The Hornets will host this game Monday night at 7 p.m.
After falling behind at the half, 33-24, Friday night, Shenandoah roared back against Roanoke (12-12, 8-8).
The Hornets reeled off a 17-4 run to start the second, eventually taking a 41-37 lead by the 12:33 mark following an Imani Heggins free throw.
Unfortunately for SU, Roanoke had an answer.
The Maroons scored the next nine points of the game, taking a 46-41 lead at 8:55 on a Paxton Gwin layup, and never trailed again.
Freshman Tiffany Bauer stopped the scoreless streak with a layup at 7:58, but the Hornets would get no closer than this three-point deficit.
Roanoke started another run, this one 11-0 over a span of 5:41, to secure the victory.
Shenandoah was held without a point for 6:16 between Bauer's layup and a Heggins free throw with 1:41 remaining.
Senior Crystal Petrus paced the visitors with 17 points while Heggins added 10.
Laurel Hankins had a game-high 20 for RC with Gwin backing Hankins up with 17 points.
Roanoke shot 36 percent to the Hornets' 32 percent and owned a 44-38 advantage on the boards.
