LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Shenandoah University men's basketball team completed its regular season Saturday afternoon with a 70-66 ODAC loss at Randolph College.
The loss puts SU (12-13, 4-12 ODAC) the No. 7 vs No. 10 contest, most likely against Bridgewater, on Tuesday in the first round of the tournament.
The winner of that game will play the No. 2 seed on Friday in the ODAC Tournament quarterfinals at the Salem Civic Center.
After SU opened the game with a CJ Rudisill 3-pointer, Randolph (15-10, 9-7) answered with a 16-0 run to take total control of the contest.
Mike Ehilegbu gave the WildCats the lead for good with the first of his two free throws at the 17:52 mark of the first.
Shenandoah, which found itself down 17 following a Corey Brown 3-pointer at 17:22 of the second, roared back with a 29-14 run over a span of 12:28 in the middle of the second stanza.
Freshman Brandon Pressley got the spurt started with a pair of layups and after buckets from Dante Seraile, Xavier Alston and Jimi Starks, senior Avery Green took over.
Green, the leading scorer in the ODAC, scored 10 of his game-high 21 points during this run to help SU cut the deficit to 59-57 with 3:34 remaining.
Unfortunately for the Hornets, Randolph was able to answer with eight of the game's next 11 points to seal the victory.
Green's final bucket, a layup, made it 69-66 with four seconds remaining before Ehilegbu hit one of two from the line to clinch it.
Seraile backed up Green with 11 points with Ehilegbu and Brown both posting 12 points for the 'Cats.
Seth Wimbish led the victors with 13 points.
Shenandoah shot 42 percent from the field in the loss.
The official pairings for the ODAC Tournament will be announced Saturday evening.
