DOVER, Del. – The Shenandoah University baseball team got itself back on the winning track Tuesday afternoon with a 5-2 non-league victory over Wesley College.
Shenandoah (8-2) scored one run in the fourth, and after Wesley (4-6) answered with two in its half of the frame, scored three times in the fifth to take a lead it would not relinquish.
Junior J.J. McDaniel provided the big blow with a three-run home run to left center put the Hornets on top.
McDaniel brought home Joe Bittner and Billy Arens, who had reached on a hit by pitch and a single through the right side, respectively.
Junior Matt Riegler, who came on in relief of Eric Liskey in the fourth, pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings to earn the win.
Riegler (1-0) struck out three, walked one and gave up just one hit in his time on the mound.
Sophomore Cameron Lundmark pitched a perfect ninth to post his second save.
McDaniel led the offense with three hits in four at-bats with Arens and Nolan Overby both posting two hits.
Dan Powers drove in the squad's first run with a sacrifice fly.
SU returns to ODAC play tomorrow with a 3:00 contest at Eastern Mennonite.
