Baseball Overthrows Royals

HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Shenandoah University baseball team pounded out a season-high 25 hits in a 20-7 ODAC victory over Eastern Mennonite Friday afternoon.

All nine Hornets (9-2) starters had at least one hit with five: Corbin Lucas, Cameron Lundmark, J.J. McDaniel, Dan Powers and Andrew Creamer, contributing at least three each.

Lucas led this group with a 5 for 7 afternoon that included four RBI and four runs scored.

Lundmark, normally the squad's closer, was 4 for 5 from the two-hole after drawing the start at shortstop.

Lucas and Powers both hit home runs with Powers and Michael Paul both matching Lucas with four RBI.

Sophomore Billy Arens (1-1) was the beneficary of the offensive output as he earned the win after allowing six runs (two earned) on nine hits and three walks in 7 2/3 innings of work.

Tyler Hott and Garrett Wooddell finished up with Wooddell recording the final three outs of the game.

Shenandoah scored one run in the second, four in the third, three in the fourth and two in the fifth to take a commanding 10-2 lead after five.

After being held off the board for just the second time all game in the sixth, coach Kevin Anderson's squad scored a combined 10 runs in its final three turns at the plate. Half of this production came in the eighth inning.

The Hornets continue ODAC play tomorrow at Hampden-Sydney. The doubleheader begins at noon.
