WINCHESTER, Va. – No. 18/RV Shenandoah University kept is ODAC baseball record perfect on the season with a 21-6 win over Eastern Mennonite Thursday afternoon.
The win completes the season sweep for SU (13-2, 8-0 ODAC) over the Royals (12-9, 0-6).
After EMU scored four runs in the top of the third off of Hornets starter Eric Liskey, the offense came alive in the bottom of the frame.
Shenandoah sent 11 men to the plate in the bottom of the inning, scoring eight runs to take a lead it would not relinquish.
Eastern Mennonite briefly made matters interesting with a two-run fourth, but SU answered with four runs in the bottom of that inning and then added four more in the fifth, two in the sixth and three more in the seventh.
Coach Kevin Anderson's club banged out 22 hits in the win with all nine starters getting at least one hit.
Leadoff hitter Billy Arens had three hits and scored five runs, J.J. McDaniel had three doubles among his four hits and he, Corbin Lucas and Michael Paul all drove in four runs each.
Dan Powers had the only home run of the game, a two-run shot in the fifth.
Senior Andrew Zirobila, the third SU pitcher, got the win with 5.0 innings of effective relief. Zirobila (1-0) scattered five hits and struck out four.
Kyle Armstrong (2-1) took the loss for the visitors. He gave up five runs on six hits and one walk in 2.0 innings.
Shenandoah is back in action tomorrow at 3 in a non-league game against PSU-Altoona.
