BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Host Bridgewater College used a strong start to down No. 17/24 Shenandoah University 12-6 in ODAC baseball action Tuesday afternoon.
Bridgewater (15-7, 7-3 ODAC) scored two runs in the first, two in the second and three in the third to pull away from Shenandoah (18-5, 10-2).
The Hornets chipped away at the Eagles lead with three runs in the third and single runs in the fourth and fifth only to see BC pad its lead with a combined five runs in sixth, seventh and eighth.
Shenandoah had 12 hits in the victory including two each from Corbin Lucas, Nolan Overby, J.J. McDaniel, Joe Bittner and Ricky Pardo.
McDaniel led off the Hornets third with a solo HR.
Junior Michael Paul, the ODAC Player of the Week, had an RBI single in the third to extend his hitting streak to 25 games.
Senior Vince Claudio (4-1) took the loss after allowing seven runs (five earned) on seven hits and five walks in 5.0 innings of work.
Claudio struck out two.
Nick Corbin (4-1) pitched the first 5.0 innings to pick up the victory while Corey Armentrout allowed one hit in the final three innings to post his second save of the season.
Shenandoah hosts Messiah on Wednesday at 4:00 in a non-league contest.
