LYNCHBURG, Va. – Third-seeded Bridgewater has forced an 'if necessary' game at the 2014 ODAC Baseball Championship with a 5-2 victory over No. 14/18 Shenandoah in the opening game of the day Sunday.

Shenandoah (31-8) could have won its first-ever ODAC championship with a win over the Eagles (30-12) in this contest.

Now, the two teams will play a winner-take-all championship game.

The game will be the fifth between the two teams this season with each squad having won twice previously.

BC, thanks to two runs in the second, led throughout the contest.

SU answered with one of its own in the fourth before scoring an unearned run in the ninth.

The Hornets saw their first two batters reach safely in the ninth but Bridgewater reliever Corey Armentrout prevented a Shenandoah comeback with two flyouts and a groundout.

Armentrout appeared to retire SU without giving up a run in the ninth, but a throwing error allowed Dan Powers to score that unearned run.

Armentrout, the Eagles game two starter on Friday night, pitched the final 4.0 innings and allowed the unearned run on two hits and one walk.

He struck out two.

Armentrout came on in relief of Nick Corbin (7-1), who was making his second start of the tournament.

Corbin scattered seven hits and struck out two in working the first 5.0 innings of the game.

Powers led SU with two hits and Michael Paul had an RBI double in the fourth. Paul brought home Nolan Overby, who had led off the frame with a triple to center.

Phillip Morse (3-4) took the loss for the Hornets. Morse allowed four runs on 10 hits and three walks in 6.0 innings.

He also struck out three.
