Quakers Pull Away from Women

WINCHESTER, Va. – Visiting Guilford College used a big run at the end of the first half on its way to a 62-41 ODAC women's basketball victory over Shenandoah.

Guilford (8-5, 2-2 ODAC) scored seven of the last 10 points of the first to essentially clinch the victory over SU (5-8, 1-3).

Senior Holly Chittenden brought the Hornets to within four, 20-16, with a layup at the 3:02 mark of the first only to see GC pull away with that 7-3 run.

Junior Ashley McGhee had the lone SU bucket on a 3-pointer with 56 seconds remaining before the break.

The Quakers then opened the second half on a 12-2 spurt, broken up only by a Chittenden jumper at 15:25, to put the game out of reach.

Shenandoah would get no closer than 10 points the rest of the way.

Guilford took a 27-19 lead into the halftime break on the strength of 45 percent shooting from the field (13 of 29) and a defensive effort that held SU to 25 percent shooting from the field (7 of 28) and produced eight points off of 13 Shenandoah turnovers.

Chittenden led all players with 17 points with Lauren Ramsey posting 12 points for the Quakers.

GC ended up with a 46-31 advantage on the glass, including 28-12 on the Hornets offensive end.

Shenandoah continues this homestand on Tuesday with a 7 p.m. ODAC contest against Bridgewater.
