WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's basketball team earned its second ODAC victory of the season with a 68-54 win over Randolph College Saturday afternoon.
The Hornets (6-11, 2-6) snapped a 10-game losing streak with the win over the WildCats (11-6, 2-6).
The win also gives SU a split of the season series with Randolph.
Shenandoah trailed 35-30 at the break and was down by as many as eight before rallying for the win.
Senior Holly Chittenden, who recorded her 21st career double-double, got the comeback started by canning a pair of free throws at the 8:54 mark.
Sophomore Erin French, who led all scorers with 19 points, cut the deficit to four with a layup at 7:23 before Kirstyn Arcata sandwiched a jumper and a 3-pointer around a Chittenden free throw to knot the contest at 51 with 5:26 remaining.
With the capacity crowd rocking, Shenandoah then clinched the contest by scoring 17 of the final 20 points of the game.
This run included a five-point possession for Chittenden at 4:25. Fouled as she completed a layup, Randolph was whistled for a technical foul and Chittenden calmly drained all three free throws to give her club a seven-point lead.
The Hornets then made 11 free throws in the final 2:06 to coast home to the win.
Abigail Bullins, who had 10 first half points for the 'Cats, scored her only two points of the second by draining a pair from the line with 22 seconds remaining.
She was the only Randolph player in double figures.
In addition to French's 19, Chittenden had 16 points and 15 rebounds and Arcata 15 points.
Chittenden is now 33 points from a 1000 for her career.
SU shot 32 percent to 39 for Randolph and saw the 'Cats have a slight, 41-40, advantage on the glass.
Shenandoah is back in action on Wednesday with a 7 p.m. home game against Virginia Wesleyan.
