Volleyball Sweeps Bison

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University volleyball team won its second match in as many days with a 3-0 sweep over Gallaudet University Thursday evening.

Shenandoah (9-7) dominated the first two sets, winning at 12 and 13, but then had to outlast the Bison (9-4) in a marathon third.

SU jumped out to a 12-3 lead in the set only to see GC claw back into on the strength of six straight points with Kylene Etkie at the service line.

Two rotations later, Gallaudet took its first lead, 17-16, on a Tessa Lewis kill.

The Bison eventually led by two on three different occasions, the last at 20-18, before Shenandoah answered back.

A Caylin Harris kill followed by one from Blake Parkes brought the set back to level at 20-20, and set the stage for the marathon finish.

The two teams were tied at the next 13 points until SU finally finished off the Bison with a Kaitlin Kelley kill followed by an Anna Gallup service ace to win 35-33.

Shenandoah had opportunities to win at 26, 27, 28, 30, 31 and 33 only to see Gallaudet fight off match point each time.

The Hornets fought off two set points, at 29 and 32, to help complete the sweep.

Kelley and Allie Pieper both had 10 kills for the victors with Parkes adding nine and Harris eight.

Rachel Cerretani had all 37 of the SU assists.

Gallup and Brandi Griffith had 12 and 11 digs, respectively.

Shenandoah continues this homestand on Saturday with an 11 a.m. ODAC matchup against Guilford.
