WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University field hockey team is now in sole possession of first place in the ODAC following a 2-1 double overtime victory over Washington and Lee Friday afternoon.
The win is the eighth straight for Shenandoah (9-4, 4-0 ODAC) and clinches an ODAC Tournament berth for the squad.
Senior Kelani Bailey won it for SU in the 99th minute when she banged home a cross from classmate Presha Merritt.
The OT winner is the second of the week for Bailey, who tallied the only goal in a 1-0 win at Frostburg State Wednesday night.
Bailey also set up the Hornets opening goal of the game as Alana Meadows, sitting on the doorstep, deflected Bailey's shot past Generals goalkeeper Ariyel Yavalar.
Yavalar kept W&L (7-6, 3-1) in the game by making 17 saves, including nine in the second half and five in overtime.
The Generals forced the sudden victory overtime with a goal in 65th minute.
Shenandoah outshot its visitors 28-12 with W&L taking six of the game's 10 corners.
SU goalkeeper Jessica Brown had seven saves.
The Hornets travel to Eastern Mennonite on Tuesday for a 7:00 ODAC contest.
