WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Lynchburg College snapped Shenandoah University's nine-match field hockey winning streak with a 3-2 ODAC victory Saturday afternoon.
Lynchburg (13-3, 4-1 ODAC) brought itself to within a half-game of Shenandoah (10-5, 5-1) with the win.
Lynchburg's win sets up a scenario in which LC, SU and Washington and Lee could all tie for first place in the ODAC regular season standings.
In that case, the No. 1 seed (and hosting responsibility for the semi-finals and finals) would be determined by the league's tie-breaking procedures.
Sophomore Elizabeth Pardo scored the opening goal of the game for SU, tallying off of a Kelani Bailey assist at 4:02.
LC answered back with goals at 6:10 and 13:15 to take a one goal lead into the halftime break.
Shenandoah, on a Kayla Alderman unassisted goal, knotted the game at 2-2 at 42:55.
Lynchburg then scored the game-winner with 11:14 to play.
SU outshot its visitors 12-10 while the two teams split 10 penalty corners.
Jessica Brown had five saves for the hosts.
Shenandoah completes its regular season on Wednesday at Bridgewater. Game time is 7 p.m.
