Women Extend Streak

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's soccer team clinched itself a home game in the upcoming ODAC Tournament with a 1-0 victory at Bridgewater Tuesday afternoon.

The Hornets (11-6-1, 8-1-1 ODAC) can clinch the No. 2 seed with the win Saturday in the regular season finale versus Guilford. The Quakers are currently tied for eighth in the league standings.

Freshman Jordan Riser tallied the game's lone goal Tuesday, finishing off a feed from Averi Rosena in the 69th minute.

Riser lofted a 25-yard shot over Bridgewater (9-6-1, 6-3-1) keeper Hayley Talbott to give SU its second straight victory over the Eagles.

The one-goal victory for coach Liz Pike's squad represents the seventh time in the past eight years that Shenandoah and Bridgewater have played a regular season game decided by no more than one goal.

The win extends the Hornets unbeaten streak to nine games.

Junior goalkeeper Erin Septer, provided with the one-goal lead, made it stand up with a season-best 13 save performance.

BC took 21 shots in the game, including 14 in the second half.

"Erin was outstanding tonight," Pike said. "They were killing us all over the field and I think they could have won 5-0 without her performance tonight.

"Jordan had a nice goal off of Averi's assist, but Erin was a beast today."

In addition to taking 21 of the game's 29 shots, Bridgewater had a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.
