WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University completed its best women's soccer season in four years of ODAC play with a 3-1 victory over Guilford Saturday afternoon.
Seniors Danielle Burris and Nicole Pratt both played a prominent role as the Hornets (12-6-1, 9-1-1 ODAC) clinched the No. 2 seed in the upcoming ODAC Tournament with the win over Guilford (7-10-1, 4-7).
Burris scored two goals, including the game-winner in the 47th minute, and Pratt earned her second win of the season in the goal after posting one save in 90 minutes of action.
After a scoreless first half, freshman Dornesha Cottoms scored off of Kelsie Luddington and Burris double assist just 10 seconds into the second to give SU a lead it would not relinquish.
Burris scored 76 seconds later, finishing off a Taylor Potter assist, and coach Liz Pike's club would have all of the offense it would need.
Burris' goal became the game-winner when Christian Heggie tallied for the Quakers in the 76th minute.
Burris second goal came in the 69th minute off of a Shannon De Leon and Allison Shomo double assist.
Shenandoah outshot GC 17-3, including 7-0 in the first half, and had the game's only corner kick.
Quakers keeper Becca Banks had six saves.
"Great day today," Pike said. "We honored Pratt and Burris before the game and then took care of business in winning the game to secure the No. 2 seed. I am proud of the team."
The win was the 90th of Pike's SU career and puts Shenandoah into a Wednesday quarterfinal against the tournament's seventh-seed (likely Randolph-Macon).
Pairings will be officially announced Sunday.
