Hockey Rallies Past Maroons

SALEM, Va. - The Shenandoah University field hockey team earned its second straight ODAC victory Saturday afternoon by downing Roanoke College 3-2 in overtime.

Sophomore Elizabeth Pardo netted the game-winner 2:39 into overtime as she knocked home a rebound of her own shot.

Pardo, who found herself wide open in front, knocked her original shot off of Roanoke keeper Heather Schauder's pads before corralling the rebound and slipping it past the prone Schauder.

Pardo put the Hornets (4-4, 2-0 ODAC) in position to take the overtime win by scoring unassisted with 24 seconds remaining in regulation.

On this play, she collected a deflection and knocked it past Schauder.

Sarah Brock opened the day's scoring, tallying unassisted in the 7th minute, only to see Roanoke (5-4, 0-3) sandwich two goals around the halftime break to take the 2-1 lead.

The Maroons scored in the 33rd and 38th minutes to grab that advantage.

Shenandoah outshot its hosts 12-10 and had a 4-3 advantage in penalty corners.

SU took the only two shots of overtime.

Hornets goalkeeper Jessica Brown had three saves.

Shenandoah is right back at it tomorrow afternoon at 5 p.m. in a non-league game versus Ferrum. This game will be played in Kerr Stadium on the Roanoke College campus.
