WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's soccer team reached the .500 mark on the season thanks to a 10-0 ODAC victory over Hollins Tuesday evening.
The Hornets (6-6, 3-1 ODAC) scored five goals in each half in dispatching Hollins (0-10, 0-4).
The 10 goals is tied for sixth best all-time for the women's soccer program and is the most goals scored since SU defeated HU 11-0 on October 22, 2014.
The women's soccer program has now scored double-digit goals 13 times in program history.
Three of those double-digit showings have occurred versus Hollins. Tuesday's performance comes on the 22nd anniversary, October 6, 1992, of the first 10-goal performance against HU.
Freshman Dornesha Cottoms had what proved to be the game-winner by knocking home an Alysha McCleaf cross just 92 seconds in.
Cottoms was one of six different women to score at least one goal on the evening. Freshman Julia McDevitt had three goals with Alexandra Berrich and Averi Rosena each adding two.
McCleaf had two assists on the evening and Rosena finished her night by setting up McDevitt's penultimate goal.
De'Nae Whittington rounded out the multiple point scorers with two assists.
SU scored in the 2nd, 12th, 15th, 20th, 30th, 65th, 69th (2: 68:21, 68:51), 75th and 82nd minutes in the win.
The Hornets took all 50 shots in the game and also all six corners.
Hollins goalkeeper Audrey Haisley made 18 saves.
Senior Nicole Pratt, who relieved starting keeper Erin Septer at the 21:08 mark, earned her first win of the season.
SU is now off for the next eight days until traveling to Lexington to take on Washington and Lee next Wednesday afternoon in a 4 p.m. ODAC contest.
The Hornets game with Emory and Henry, originally scheduled for this coming Sunday, has been moved to Sunday, October 18.
