Volleyball Drops Heartbreaker

WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Washington and Lee rallied for a 3-2 ODAC volleyball victory over Shenandoah Wednesday evening.

Shenandoah (10-8, 3-3) looked to register its biggest upset since joining the ODAC four years ago, but perennial power W&L (10-7, 5-0) was able to rally for the five-set win with a 15-12 triumph in the fifth.

The two teams traded wins in the first four sets, with SU winning at 23 in both the first and third and the Generals winning at 21 and 22 in the second and fourth, respectively.

A four-point W&L run toward the end of the fourth gave the Generals a lead they would not relinquish and forced that decisive fifth set.

In the fifth, the two teams traded the lead three times and were tied on four other occasions before Washington and Lee won it with a 4-1 run to finish.

With the score 14-12 in favor of the Generals and Blake Parkes at the service line, W&L had a successful serve receive and set Meg Guignon for the match-clinching kill.

Guignon's kill was her co-match-high 16th.

Parkes had 15 kills for the Hornets with Rachel Roberts adding 12 and both Kaitlyn Kelley and Allie Pieper 10 each.

Rachel Cerretani fueled the attack with 46 assists.

Defensively, libero Brandi Griffith had 12 digs and Cerretani 11.

Anne Lausberg had 16 kills as well for the visitors.

Shenandoah continues this homestand Saturday with a non-league tri-match beginning at 11. SU faces Lancaster Bible and Mount Aloysius on the day.
