WINCHESTER, Va. – Visiting Emory and Henry used a dominating first half offensive performance on its way to a 54-21 ODAC victory over Shenandoah Saturday afternoon.
The Wasps (6-3, 4-2 ODAC) outgained SU (4-5, 1-5) 449-59 in the opening 30 minutes of play to take a 47-7 halftime lead.
Shenandoah's lone highlight in the first half was an 82-yard Cedrick Delaney kickoff return for touchdown.
Delaney scored the TD as SU ran a reverse on the kickoff. Freshman Jalen Hudson originally took the kick at the Hornet 12 and flipped it to Delaney at the 15 after cutting up the right hash.
Delaney, moving to the wide side of the field, took the pitch and outran a host of Wasps players along the far sideline.
Emory & Henry, which finished the game with 631 yards of total offense, scored 26 points in the first quarter and another 21 in the second to take the commanding lead.
Shenandoah rebounded to gain 249 of its 308 yards in the second half, including all but 26 of its 219 yards passing, but could not significantly put a dent in the deficit.
All the second half scoring came in the fourth with SU sandwiching touchdowns at 12:53 and 4:10 around a Wasps touchdown at 8:37.
Both of the Hornets touchdowns came through the air with Hayden Bauserman hitting Qlyl Middelijn on a 4th-and-goal from the 5 for the first score and Miles Green on a 2nd-and-goal from the 9 to close out the day's scoring.
Bauserman finished his day 20 for 38 for two touchdowns against one interception.
That pick came on the hosts first offensive play from scrimmage and was nearly a pick-six. Rennel Marshall had that interception and appeared to be headed for the defensive score before Delaney dragged him down at the 1.
The Wasps did have a defensive score on the day, with Davon Keith picking up a Travis Barton, Jr. fumble and rumbling 20 yards for a score with 1:53 remaining in the first period.
Kevin Saxson was 18 for 28 for 294 yards and three TDs for the Wasps with Chris Thompson adding 129 yards rushing on 15 carries.
E&H had 318 of its 631 offensive yards on the ground.
Michael Messick led the SU defense with 14 tackles.
Shenandoah completes its season next Saturday with a 1 p.m. home game against ODAC champion Washington and Lee.
