Women's Hoops Falls at Marymount

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's basketball team completed the pre-Christmas portion of its schedule Monday evening with a 62-30 non-league loss at Marymount University.

Shenandoah (3-6) was held to just eight points in the first half as the Saints (7-2) jumped out to 16-5 lead after one and extended it to 29-8 by the half.

Marymount scored 12 of the initial 14 points of the game, and after SU cut its deficit to 18-8 by the 5:39 mark of the second, scored the final 11 points of the first half to take that 21-point lead into the break.

Coach Melissa Smeltzer-Kraft's club came out the intermission on a strong note, matching the Saints 12 third period points, but could only watch as MU scored 21 of the game's final 31 points.

Freshman Shannon Kuhn, who was named as the ODAC Player of the Week earlier Monday, co-led Shenandoah with eight points.

Sophomore Haley Urben had eight points of the bench with junior Erin French scoring seven points and registering five steals.

Miranda Knott paced the victors with 13 points.

Marymount shot 43 percent to the Hornets 25 percent and outrebounded SU 45-18.

The Saints had all 10 of the game's second chance points and outscored Shenandoah 34-10 in the paint.

The Hornets return to the court on December 30 with a 2 p.m. ODAC home contest versus Guilford.
