Cold Shooting Dooms Women

WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Hollins University earned its first ODAC victory of the season Saturday afternoon with a 54-48 win over Shenandoah.

Hollins (3-20, 1-13 ODAC) won for the first time in 20 games as Shenandoah (7-16, 3-11 ODAC) was held to 32 percent shooting on the afternoon.

After taking a pair of six-point leads, the latter following a Holly Chittenden free throw with 11:20 to play in the first, SU saw its visitors score 14 of the final 20 points of the stanza to take a 22-20 lead into the break.

Hollins then scored 18 of the first 20 points of the second, broken up only by an Olivia Callan jumper at 14:47, to push its lead out to a 18-points, 40-22, with 12:23 remaining.

The Hornets refused to fold their tents, however, outscoring HU 19-4 over the next 9:54 to cut the deficit to just three, 44-41, with 2:11 left.

Unfortunately for the Shingleton Gymnasium fans, this would be as close as Shenandoah would come the rest of the way.

Hollins converted nine of its final 11 free throws, including five from Jewellanna Parfitt and four from Taylor Catron, to seal the win.

Chittenden led SU with 14 points while Kirstyn Arcata added 12.

Parfitt had a game-high 15 for Hollins.

Shenandoah travels to Randolph-Macon on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. contest.
