ASHLAND, Va. - Host Randolph-Macon used a strong start to the second half to pull away from Shenandoah University in a 79-44 ODAC women's basketball win Wednesday evening.
After Erin French and Ashley McGhee converted a pair of layups for SU (7-17, 3-12 ODAC) to start the second half, Macon (19-4, 12-3 ODAC), reeled off a 25-0 run over the next 7:17 of the contest to take total control.
McGhee bookended the Yellow Jackets run with a layup at 10:30, but the R-MC advantage proved too large.
Staked to a 32-point lead, the 'Jackets kept their advantage north of 30 points for the remainder of the contest.
Shenandoah was within single digits of its hosts for most of the first half with the game as close as seven points following a Holly Chittenden layup at the 3:43 mark.
Macon answered this bucket with eight straight points, allowed a Brie Girouard jumper with one second remaining in the first and then the French and McGhee layups before exploding for that 25-point run.
Chittenden and Breya Wallace both had 13 points for the visitors with Chittenden recording her 23rd career double-double thanks to an 11-rebound performance.
French had a game-high 13 boards.
Sarah Parsons paced Macon with 21 points.
The Hornets complete the regular season on Saturday with a 2:00 game against Washington and Lee. Chittenden, the team's lone senior, will be honored prior to that game.
